TIME has launched Red Border Films, a new documentary filmmaking unit and interactive digital platform on Time.com, featuring deeply reported films by TIME journalists and photojournalists.
Red Border Films will draw on TIME’s extensive network of photojournalists, filmmakers and other contributors to produce both short documentaries and expanded films, presented along with interactive features at time.com/redborder, where users will be able to watch films, explore in-depth information about the filmmakers and their subjects and view photo galleries and other multimedia elements around each project. Red Border Films kicks off with a look back, 50 years later, at the March on Washington and Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I have a dream” speech in a production called One Dream

Archiving Tomorrow (AT-13) is a new international conference covering aspects of media archiving and restoration organised by KES International a knowledge transfer organisation providing high-quality conference events and publishing opportunities for researchers.

A new roundtable event from WIFV [Women in Film & Video] and Docs In Progress Documentary here – ‘This month we will have a discussion on documentaries, featuring a screening of the film CAPTURING REALITY: THE ART OF DOCUMENTARY, by Pepita Ferrari. This film features interviews with many excellent documentary filmmakers, including Werner Herzog, Albert Maysles, Errol Morris, Jessica Yu, Jennifer Baichwal, and Laura Poitras. These filmmakers and many more share their insights into meeting the challenge of making documentary films.’
We will discuss the existential questions of what is (and is not) a documentary, and where ideas come from. We will also hear from these accomplished filmmakers on the relationship of the director and the film subject, and on the art of the interview. Lastly, we will discuss some of the ethical issues of documentary film, including getting access and developing trust.

Cisco® Visual Networking Index (VNI), an ongoing initiative to track and forecast the impact of visual networking applications have released a new forecast document. Cisco Visual Networking Index: Forecast and Methodology, 2012–2017.

Some highlights from the paper relating to Video delivery:
• Globally, consumer Internet video traffic will be 69 percent of all consumer Internet traffic in 2017, up from 57 percent in 2012. This percentage does not include video exchanged through peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing. The sum of all forms of video (TV, video on demand [VoD], Internet, and P2P) will be in the range of 80 to 90 percent of global consumer traffic by 2017.
• Video-on-demand traffic will nearly triple by 2017. The amount of VoD traffic in 2017 will be equivalent to 6 billion DVDs per month.
• Content Delivery Network (CDN) traffic will deliver almost two-thirds of all video traffic by 2017. By 2017, 65 percent of all Internet video traffic will cross content delivery networks in 2017, up from 53 percent in 2012.
