ITN Source signs China Central Television footage

Barcroft TV passes 1M YouTube subscribers – US market leads growth with UK second

Barcroft TV’s YouTube channel created by independent UK hybrid linear and digital TV producer / distributor Barcroft Media is celebrating the landmark achievement of acquiring its 1 millionth subscriber.

Here are the stats from Barcroft: “The past 12 months has seen Barcroft TV reimagine the news video genre and dominate the factual space on YouTube by celebrating ‘the amazing side of life’. The channel has experienced an incredible popularity surge over the past year with an increase of 571,638 subscribers since 1st April 2014, representing a 155% year on year growth*. YouTube viewers watched a total of 917,265,329 minutes of Barcroft TV content±.
Barcroft TV’s biggest territory is the US, representing 31% of all subscribers. The UK is the second biggest market with 6% of subscribers followed by Canada (4%), Brazil (3%) and Germany (3%). Barcroft TV’s YouTube subscribers are split 64% male/ 36% female.”

ITN Source Short Film Competition – create from the archive = win £1000

ITN Source has launched a competition which encourages filmmakers to create a one minute film using footage from its archive. The ITN Source Short Film Competition, in association with Sheffield Doc/Fest and Audio Network, offers a £1,000 prize to the winner, while the top 3 entries will get to see their short film on the big screen at Sheffield Doc/Fest, 5-10 June 2015.
Entrants must create a one-minute film using solely archive footage from ITN Source and music from Audio Network. The film must use at least 10 archive clips but there are no other creative constraints and the judges are looking for an original, visually arresting piece.
“We are passionate about archive footage and believe in its ability to tell impactful stories. Archive is a powerful tool that can inspire, enhance and develop a narrative – so we decided to challenge the creative production industry to create an original short film using solely archive footage. ACSIL: Stock footage business UP 40% FROM 2011 SURVEY

The Association of Commercial Stock Image Licensors (ACSIL) in America has reported on it’s third ACSIL Global Survey of Stock Footage Companies (AGS3)
They say: ‘The third ACSIL Global Survey of Stock Footage Companies (AGS3), published on February 28th, reports a rapidly growing business for companies who have set up dedicated units to market and sell footage. The $550MM global business represents a 40% increase from 2011, when the market was estimated at $394MM.’
‘The 167-page report, by the Association of Commercial Stock Image Licensors (ACSIL) and Thriving Archives, provides 50 pages of analysis and 101 charts that visualize results from the 53 questions asked in the survey, conducted over a two-month period in late 2014 and completed by a group of 90 stock footage companies. The analysis covers 11 separate categories, including: Business Conditions; Company Types; Footage Holdings; Headcount; Order Processing; Order Volume; Digitization; Customer Types; Pricing; Marketing; and Threats & Opportunities.’

ITN Source signs with Shutterstock editorial arm for Still images

ITN Source, the footage licensing division of ITN, has formed a global partnership agreement with Shutterstock owned London editorial photo agency Rex Features. The deal will enabling ITN Source to license Still images in order to complement their extensive footage library.
The agreement marks the first time that ITN Source has chosen to partner with a specialist in the Stills sector and both companies believe the partnership creates a compelling Stills and Footage offering that will help to simplify the sourcing and licensing process for their clients.
As part of the agreement, ITN Source will be creating and supplying over 100,000 ITN stills to the Rex Features collection, covering a whole host of iconic news events captured over the last 60 years.
Andy Williams, Managing Director at ITN Source, says: “When we began looking at the Rex Features Stills archive, we were all struck by the synergies with our footage and the opportunities this would present for our clients in the broadcast sector. We are delighted with the success of the UK trial and are excited at the potential of rolling this out to our clients globally.”
