Barcroft Media goes for major staff promotions and hires ahead of new launches
Fantastic news here from premium factual content producer and distributor Barcroft Media who have made a series of experienced executive, editorial and production hires ahead of Barcroft TV’s forthcoming move into providing long form video content and the launch of new online video channels.
New recruits to the London editorial team new Features Reporter Emma Lowe previously of The Daily Mail, and two new Live Content Researchers; Mark Hodge and Rebecca Lewis. Mark is a former social media consultant and Huffington Post blogger and Rebecca was previously at Yahoo! Also joining is former CNBC Video Editor Kyle Waters. Finally former Bizarre magazine news editor Alix Fox joins as Head of Social Media. Alix also presents Barcroft TV’s weekly round up show ‘Top 5 Shorts’.
Alex Morris, formerly head of digital at Barcroft Media has been promoted to Creative Director, overseeing content and partnerships across the business.
The editorial team’s restructure sees internal promotions with Jack Fletcher promoted to Head of Content from Assistant Editor (News), and former Senior News Reporter John Balson rising to News Editor.
Former ITV production manager and online strategist Adam Mudditt has been appointed as the company’s Head of Video Production with a remit to manage the video production team and enable Barcroft TV to increase its output across multiple new online video channels. Adam will also be managing distribution schedules and processes.

Barcroft TV passes 1M YouTube subscribers – US market leads growth with UK second
Barcroft TV’s YouTube channel created by independent UK hybrid linear and digital TV producer / distributor Barcroft Media is celebrating the landmark achievement of acquiring its 1 millionth subscriber.
Here are the stats from Barcroft: “The past 12 months has seen Barcroft TV reimagine the news video genre and dominate the factual space on YouTube by celebrating ‘the amazing side of life’. The channel has experienced an incredible popularity surge over the past year with an increase of 571,638 subscribers since 1st April 2014, representing a 155% year on year growth*. YouTube viewers watched a total of 917,265,329 minutes of Barcroft TV content±.
Barcroft TV’s biggest territory is the US, representing 31% of all subscribers. The UK is the second biggest market with 6% of subscribers followed by Canada (4%), Brazil (3%) and Germany (3%). Barcroft TV’s YouTube subscribers are split 64% male/ 36% female.”

YouTube viewers from around the world are subscribing to Barcroft TV at the rate of around 70,000 per month, tuning in to a diverse range of viral content with videos from the natural history world, such as ‘Caught on Camera; Snake Devours Crocodile After 5 Hour Battle’ (41m views), sitting alongside jaw-dropping real life stories, including ‘Professional Twerker; Jessica Vanessa’ (14m views) and ‘Florida Woman Keeps Bengal Tigers in her Garden’, (8m views)
Barcroft Media researches, produces and distributes at least five incredible, exclusive factual mini-docs per week in house for the channel in a format that regularly sets the popular news agenda around the world through its viral content and social sharability. Social interaction has also led to the introduction of long-form content to Barcroft TV. The creation of the ‘Barcroft Docs’ strand was a result of audience engagement and following a series of licensing deals with partners including ITV Studios and Off The Fence, full-length documentary series are now regularly aired on the channel.
