Launched: BBC StoryWorks ‘a new content marketing team’
The commercial arm of the BBC has started a new content marketing team called BBC StoryWorks which will be funded via Brands wanting to sponsor/advertise documentaries produced by this new team.
They say: …’the new division will be led by Richard Pattinson, a former BBC journalist with over ten years’ experience, who has been appointed SVP of Content. The BBC StoryWorks team, based in Singapore, Sydney, New York and London, will span the globe offering clients content solutions built on compelling narratives that will engage audiences.’
BBC StoryWorks will form part of the wider award-winning BBC Advertising portfolio and will work in partnership with brands that complement the BBC’s content across BBC Worldwide and BBC Global News Ltd’s digital and TV platforms. These include BBC World News, Top Gear, BBC Good Food, BBC World Service, BBC Worldwide channels and BBC.com, the latter of which reaches a global audience of more than 80 million unique browsers per month. Elsewhere, on social media platforms BBC World News’ Facebook page has over 10 million likes and the BBC is the world’s most shared news brand on Twitter.

The Economist also announced a new video production unit which will attract Brand advertising rather than relying on click through revenue on it’s stories.

On Friday, May 22, the Newseum (Washington, D.C) will open “Reporting Vietnam” a provocative new exhibit that marks the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, America’s first televised war. The exhibit explores the dramatic stories of how journalists brought news about the war to a divided nation. It will be on display through Sept. 12, 2016.
Powerful photos and news footage, evocative music and more than 90 compelling artifacts, historic newspapers and magazines will take visitors back to experience a time when America was at war and young people were rejecting the conservative values of their parents. Included are more than 100 dramatic images, including memorable Pulitzer Prize-winning photographs that have come to symbolize the struggle both in Vietnam and at home. Interactive kiosks in the exhibit showcase interviews with the Pulitzer Prize-winning photographers who took some of the most iconic images of the war, and the memorable protest songs that provided the soundtrack for a generation.

• Making appropriate editorial decisions on illustrative imagery across various platforms
• Reviewing and correcting image metadata to conform to Bloomberg guidelines
• Researching accurate information for captions
• Licensing imagery from third party sources
• Stay informed and well read on business, finance and political news
Qualifications:
• University degree preferred in a related field; Photography or Digital Media
• Proven experience in the editorial media industry; editing, producing stills and video
• Excellent technical skills, including proficiency in Photoshop and other image editing software including Adobe Premiere Pro
• Experience of web content management applications such as Word Press is desirable
• Excellent knowledge of image legal restrictions, licensing and permissions
• An understanding of video and audio editing is required
• Skilled at managing, using and creating content for social media platforms
• Monitor the content and landing pages of Bloomberg platforms to keep the sites current, ensuring prompt elimination of any technical or content errors, or content that is out of date or no longer functional
• Maintain speed, accuracy and efficiency in fast-paced environment
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of industry style of captioning, writing editorial cutlines for web platforms and IPTC standards
• Ability to work as an onsite editor at major events
• Extensive knowledge of digital photography and camera technology
• Strong working knowledge of global current events especially in business, finance and politics
• Excellent writing skills, spelling and grammar
• Foreign languages a plus, especially French, Spanish, German, Russian, Arabic, Italian etc.
• Excellent verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
• Must be highly motivated, organized, reliable and flexible and organized

Press Photo History Project – mapping press photography
The FootageNews.com.com team have been woking on our Press Photo History Project this week ….we recently had a new cash donation after helping reunite a retired Daily Mirror newspaper reporter/photographer John Smith with his photo archive. (search: JScollection). That donation has enabled us to start installing and tweaking a new wordpress theme and dealing with the backlog of orphan images licensing requests.
