Newstag signs Bloomberg video news package – worldwide rights

Stockholm-based, crowd-curated news service Newstag has announced an agreement with global business news and information provider Bloomberg. The deal grants Newstag worldwide rights to Bloomberg’s business and features video news packages for use on their mobile and web platforms.
Newstag CEO and Founder, Henrik Eklund, says: “Bloomberg is a world leader and innovator in the arena of international business and financial news. Having an opportunity to work with them to revolutionise the way in which audiences consume news is both inspiring and exciting.”
Newstag is designed to enable users to create their own personalised ‘tagstream’ – or TV Channel – sharing the stories that they care about among their social networks.
“Bloomberg’s premium-quality video content brings business news, and the people behind it, to life,” said Josh Rucci, Global Head of Sales for the Bloomberg Content Service. “We are delighted to partner with Newstag. They offer an interesting and dynamic platform to distribute our award- winning, global business and features video which covers subjects from technology to innovation in the energy, transportation and luxury goods sectors, to a broader audience.”

Pond5 releases new look site – includes 75,000 Public Domain media clips

Royalty-free video footage platform Pond5 have launch their new look website which includes a Public Domain Project, ‘the first library of free public domain content designed specifically for media makers.’ The initial collection includes 10,000 video clips, 65,000 photos, thousands of sound recordings, and hundreds of 3D models.

“For years, all of this amazing public domain content has been locked up and inaccessible to the average media maker,” said Pond5 cofounder and CEO Tom Bennett. “They deserve better. Our Public Domain Project empowers media makers to take advantage of this incredibly rich library that’s rightfully theirs.”
The collection includes 5,000 never-before-seen video clips, digitised directly from the National Archives outside of Washington D.C. Other video highlights include George Meliés’ 1902 film A Trip to the Moon, along with footage from the 1952 Helsinki Olympic games, the World Wars, NASA rocket launches, and the International Space Station. Speeches from historical figures like Winston Churchill and John F. Kennedy can be heard in the collection’s recordings, along with full performances from composers like Beethoven and Chopin.
Designed especially for media creators, the library’s enriched, standardised metadata allows users to easily search for content via aesthetic and technical qualities. In addition, footage sequences have been broken down into individual shots, saving video editors countless hours of work. Everything is instantly shareable and embeddable in social media and throughout the Web.
Based in New York, with offices in Geneva, Switzerland and Prague, Czech Republic, Pond5 recently raised $61 million from Accel Partners and Stripes Group. It currently employs a global team of over 80 people.

The six-strong Cairo-based team will be responsible for handling, verifying and tagging stories as they arrive in one central location from all over the world. The multilingual team will operate round-the-clock handling thousands of stories each week from seven continents in as many time zones.
The multinational team is made up of editors from around the world who have chosen to be based in Cairo for their work in journalism and media. They will also provide bespoke production and post-production services in Egypt and the region as a whole.

Film producer: ‘I’m donating all my 4K UHD footage to the world’

Film producer Frederick Tschernutter has donated his entire stock footage archives to the global community.
The content has been filmed with RED One and Epic cameras in resolutions up to 5K. The content is released in its RAW format, including the ability to extract millions of single frames for any use.
They say: The content features amazing landscapes, cityscapes, time-lapses, slow-motions and objects that can be used in any commercial or private production. Special credits to his fellow filmmakers Theodoros Nikolaides, Helmut Strasser and Ronan & Richard Saretta that have been involved in shooting this content.
The entire archive can be previewed on YouTube (IRIS32FREE) and than downloaded directly through a link in the description of the content.

StormStock has provided footage for three-part BBC weather series ‘Wild Weather with Richard Hammond‘ due to air BBC1 December.
StormStock provided over 5 minutes of its spectacular imagery including tornadoes, hurricanes, lightning, and blizzards. Much of the material was shot by founder Martin Lisius on Super 35mm and HD, including dramatic views of rotating supercell thunderstorms and twisters racing across the US Great Plains. The episodes include “Wind – The Invisible Force,” “Water – The Shape Shifter,” and “Temperature – The Driving Force.” Lisius worked with Oxford Scientific Films who co-produced the program with Terra Mater Factual Studios.
