Multimedia Contest winning productions – World Press Photo

WPPMultimiediaOnPAN
The international jury of the 2014 World Press Photo Multimedia Contest has awarded prizes in three categories: Short Feature, Long Feature and Interactive Documentary.

First prizes by category:
First prize Short Feature: ‘Staff Riding’
Photography, video and sound recording: Marco Casino

First prize Long Feature: ‘Witnessing Gezi’
Camera, director: Emin Özmen

First prize Interactive Documentary: ‘A Short History of the Highrise’
National Film Board of Canada / The New York Times

The jury chair Jassim Ahmad, global head of multimedia innovation Reuters, reflected:
“It is remarkable that the number of entries to the contest has increased by one third since last year. The overall quality of submissions indicates that many more have a grasp of visual media – a promising indicator of things to come. The winners reflect many aspects of the human condition, such as family, culture, sport, conflict and politics.” He added:
“There is clearly no one model for success in the practice. You can work in teams large and small; with the support of a major organisation or local community. The smallest stories can speak to wider truths. The possibilities of multimedia are immense.”

India & Canada agree documentary makers co-production agreement

IDFDOCONFN
The Documentary Organization of Canada and the Indian Documentary Foundation applaud the signature of a co-production treaty signed today by Canada’s High Commissioner to India, Stewart Beck, and India’s Minister of State, Information and Broadcasting, Manish Tewari.
This agreement paves the way for screen-based content creators in both countries to formalise existing relationships as Canadian producers have informally been working with India’s talented pool of writers and storytellers. The agreement will further allow new business relationships to flourish between the two countries.
Sophy Vsivaraman, Executive Director of the Indian Documentary Foundation says: “This treaty will solidify the long standing friendship and partnership between Canadian and Indian documentary, and enable Indian filmmakers to benefit from the depth of skills and expertise in the Canadian industry”.
Both organisations are confident this co-production treaty will benefit the documentary genre and will hopefully spur broadcasters to broadcast more documentaries in prime time viewing.
This treaty was signed on the occasion of His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada’s, state visit to India.

Texas based weather stock footage experts StormStock have added new footage to the library which includes dramatic thunderstorms with intense, non-stop lightning, damaging storm surge and devastating tornadoes. All material is available on ProRes 422 HQ.
StormStock founder and cinematographer Martin Lisius announced today that he has added new climate change footage to the collection – known for its premium weather imagery. “There’s no doubt that climate change and global warming have a significant impact on our weather in the long term,” Lisius said. “They may or may not be related, but it’s likely we will continue to see things occur that we didn’t in the 20th century.”
